Haven Clark (1939–2015)
Haven was born in the Eastern Cape, South Africa, in 1939. He studied painting at Rhodes University in Grahamstown under Brian Bradshaw. While there he worked among the painters who became the Grahamstown Group, and their dark tones, vigorous brushwork and strong line shaped his early style.
He later left Grahamstown to become head of the Jack Meyer Art Centre in Paarl. He gave the rest of his working life to teaching there. He made a lasting impact on his students and the community through his deep love of creating, beauty, nature and process, and that teaching is a large part of what he left behind.
His works are held in private collections in South Africa and around the world. This site brings together photographs of as many of them as can be found.
